What kind of lighting does the areca need, home care, can you see a photo of an adult plant? I would like to know what height it reaches the maximum. While I had a young bush about 20 cm tall, I put it on the south window, but I'm worried if there is too much light for him there. Something recently, the leaves have begun to brighten.

The lush cap of numerous long leaves painted in a rich green color resembles a bunch of huge feathers and looks very decorative. This is one of the most luxurious palm trees - areca, care at home (photo will be further) for which is not so difficult as it might seem at first. Originally from the hot tropics, the thermophilic beauty does not survive in the open field. But as a potted plant, some of its species do great. This made it possible to grow it not only in greenhouses, but also in offices and even in private homes.

Areca belongs to the genus of palm trees, but only slightly resembles a palm tree. It has a thin stem, one or more, in the upper part of which there are long feathery leaves, dissected into many narrow segments. In some of its species, these feather tips are gracefully arcuate, but there are species with straight leaves.

Areca is a plant for large rooms, as it has a decent height when grown up. At home, three-stalk areca and catechu (betel palm) are most often grown. The first palm has straight leaves, several trunks and is more compact in size. Catechus has a wide head of curved long leaves, has one trunk, thin but tall.

Palm requirements for lighting and temperature of content

The plant will have a lush deciduous crown only in good lighting conditions. A tub with mature palms can be placed by the south window. But it is better to protect young bushes from direct rays, otherwise their leaves burn out and spin.

But what is absolutely not important for Areca is the temperature, or rather, its high positive values. Moreover, for active growth, she needs about 30 ° C of heat, but she can withstand an increase of 5 degrees calmly. The plant does not tolerate low values ​​and already at 0 ° C its foliage dies.

Although the Areca does not have a dormant period, it practically does not grow in winter. Therefore, for this period, the palm tree can be placed in a cooler room with a temperature of about 18-20 ° C. But it does not hurt to carry out regular spraying. Dry summer air is not terrible for the plant, in winter these indicators decrease even more and this areca does not like it. Young leaves can grow smaller, while old ones dry out the tips.

How to care for a room areca

If you properly organize a place for a palm tree, then all that remains is to support it by:

• watering as the top layer of soil in the pot dries out (often it is not worth moistening, the roots can rot);
• dressing twice a month from spring to early autumn with mineral complexes for decorative deciduous plants or for palms;
• the annual transplantation of young bushes that grow quickly into more spacious containers (for old palms, it is easy to renew the topsoil every 3 years).

Areca does not need shaping pruning.It is enough to cut off dry leaves and those that grow at the edges and hang to the floor.
