Do you know how to use Fortune's euonymus in landscape design?
This deciduous shrub is prized by gardeners for its unpretentious nature and chic decorative appearance, especially of variegated varieties. It was they who played an important role in the use of such a plant as Fortune's euonymus in landscape design (the photo will be in the article). Compact bushes with delicate almost white foliage will decorate the alpine slides with a kind of snow cover. Medium-sized golden plants will accentuate the contours of flower beds and front gardens with a kind of bright border. And just plain green-leaved varieties of euonymus are very beautiful, especially in the form of a live, and even evergreen, hedge. What is this miracle of nature?
Brief description of the plant
It is the euonymus leaves that cause admiration, but by no means their size. Moreover, they are quite small, no more than 6 cm in length and up to 3 cm in width, oval, with sharp tips. But the leathery structure with a noble gloss and a variety of bright colors, especially two-tone, immediately distinguish them from other plants. There are varieties with a golden or white border, white or yellow with a green pattern. And, conversely, with yellow or white blotches on a green leaf. In addition, due to the many branching shoots and the small distance between the deciduous petioles, the euonymus acquire a very lush and dense crown.
The advantages of euonymus
Bright and elegant bushes compare favorably with other plants not only in their color:
- they do not shed their foliage for the winter;
- adult crops winter well and do not require shelter even in the middle lane;
- they are not afraid of drought;
- do not need regular haircut and shaping, as they grow slowly;
- "Friends" and are combined with almost all garden crops;
- climbing shoots can grow on small supports.
Euonymus acquires winter hardiness with age. Young seedlings must be protected in the first winter. It will not hurt to mulch them in the second year. But from the third year of planting, the plants completely overwinter just under the snow cover.

Elegant shrubs can be both the central figure in the garden and a fragment of the overall composition:
- The smallest dwarf varieties will decorate alpine slides and empty spaces in the garden with a thick rug.
- The tall bushes make an excellent, dense and impassable hedge.
- A medium-sized euonymus can be planted instead of a border around the perimeter of flower beds or along paths.
- In a rocky garden, a motley euonymus will give it elegance and become a bright spot on a gray background.
- A weaving bush launched on a vertical support will create a shadow near the gazebo or garden bench.
The euonymus looks especially gorgeous when paired with conifers... In this case, the coloring should be selected in contrasting colors.
If the ephedra is of a solid green color, then it is better to plant a variegated, golden euonymus to it. But for a blue spruce, for example, either a plain green euonymus or varieties with white leaves in a drawing are more suitable.
