Any insects in an apartment are always a problem, because getting rid of them is quite difficult. It is especially unpleasant if they start in food, for example, in nuts. Knowing what to do if there are moths in walnuts, you can prevent it from spreading throughout the kitchen by switching to cereals. After all, then these noxious insects will spoil all supplies.
Nuts, whether walnuts, forest or any of their other types, are "loved" by a special nut moth - the moth butterfly. Adult butterflies are not dangerous, they only breed and do not eat the fruits themselves. But their larvae are quite voracious and eat all the nuts. They can be either in peeled kernels or directly inside the shell.
What to do if there are moths in walnuts
- Vacuum all cabinets and shelves to pick up pests.
- Wash them with soapy water and dry well.
- Wipe the surfaces with concentrated vinegar solution. You can use special insect repellent, for example, Antimol.
Cleaning will have to be repeated several times until the insects are visible. Special traps for moths will help to catch them. Break the nuts in the shell and see: if there are already larvae there, discard.
To prevent unwanted guests from arriving, pour untouched good nuts and all cereals into glass, tin, or plastic containers. The main thing is that it should be tightly closed with a lid.
Folk remedies for moths
Most of the folk "recipes" for moth larvae, which are already in food reserves, do not work. However, there is a benefit from them, because a butterfly that has flown into a "visit" will quickly leave your house, smelling an unpleasant smell for it. Some plants with a strong ethereal scent will help scare away butterflies, prevent them from multiplying and lay eggs. Among them, the mole does not like most of all:
- lavender;
- sagebrush;
- garlic;
- geranium;
- sweet clover;
- rosemary;
- laurel.
Spread the branches of these plants on the shelves in the closet, and also the dried tangerine zest. Citrus moths also do not like it. And in the jars themselves, where you poured the nuts, add a couple of laurel or tangerine peels.
