Large, juicy and moderately sweet strawberries are rightfully the most popular summer berry, and this is a well-deserved fame. Have you ever wondered what is in strawberries? After all, its benefits are precisely due to its rich vitamin composition. These are minerals, and vitamins themselves, as well as various acids and other useful substances.
Despite the rather sweet taste, there is less sugar in strawberries than in lemon... And it is also the only crop in which the seeds are not inside the fruit, but on top, on the surface.
What is contained in strawberries: vitamin set
Interestingly, 1 orange in terms of vitamin C is equal to only 5 strawberries.
There are much less other vitamins in red berries, among which vitamins E (0.5 mg), B2 (0.3 mg), B6 (0.06 mg) are in the lead. There is also a small content of vitamins A, B1, B2, B9, E, K. However, even this amount is quite enough to get a vitamin charge from strawberries.
Mineral constituents
Of the minerals in strawberries, potassium is the most (161 mg) - it helps to supply tissues with oxygen and regulates eye pressure. There is also a lot of calcium (40 mg), which is responsible for the normal structure and functioning of bone tissue. Strawberries contain the same amount of magnesium and sodium (18 mg each), a little sulfur (12 mg) and even iron (1.2 mg).
In addition, there are such useful substances in berries as:
- acids (oxalic, salicylic, ellagic, malic, quinic, succinic);
- bioflavonoids (anthocyanin, quercetin);
- tannins and phenolic substances;
- cellulose;
- pectin.
Useful properties of strawberries
Regular consumption of berries has a positive effect on our body, namely:
- hemoglobin rises;
- reduced cholesterol levels;
- the development of cancer cells slows down;
- collagen is more actively produced, which slows down skin aging;
- nerve cells are strengthened;
- blood clotting is normalized;
- the work of the digestive tract, organs of vision, and the cardiovascular system improves.
Despite the huge benefits, in some cases, the use of strawberries should be limited or completely eliminated. So, due to the red color, berries should not be given to allergy sufferers. Also, do not get too carried away in the presence of hypertension, gastritis, gout, kidney problems.
