Persistent beauty forsythia ovoid
Forsythia ovoid is not yet very popular among gardeners and most often European forsythia is grown instead. And it is completely in vain, because this plant is the most persistent among its relatives. Perennial shrubs are not afraid of either drought or frost, and it also blooms very beautifully with a scattering of golden flowers. What is so special about ovoid forsythia and why is it worth planting on your site?
How does a plant differ from other types of forsythia
The plant owes its name to the shape of the leaves. The leaf plate is oval, and closer to the tip it is lent, the total length of the leaf is no more than 7 cm. This is another feature of the species, because most forsythia have larger leaves.
However, one of the main advantages of the species is its simplicity. Perennial it is distinguished by high drought resistance. In addition, it has good frost resistance compared to other forsythias. It is necessary to cover the bush only in the northern area.
Perhaps the only drawback of ovoid forsythia is short flowering - no more than 16 days, and sometimes even only 9 days. But it blooms earlier than other varieties. In the south, small yellow flowers with a diameter of only 2 cm bloom at the end of February, in the middle lane - a little later, towards the end of April. A young bush blooms in the fourth year of planting.
