Preparing the garden for winter - how to feed fruit trees in autumn?

Last year, a young garden was laid at the summer cottage. All the seedlings started, but some did not survive the winter. The seller from whom we bought them says that this could be due to the lack of autumn feeding. Tell me what fertilizers to apply in the fall for fruit trees? We are planning to resume losses with new trees, and we did not want them to die as well.

Everyone knows that fertilization for garden and horticultural crops is carried out mainly in the spring. But do not forget about autumn dressing, especially for fruit trees. So that they can winter without loss, it is necessary to saturate the garden with nutrients in plenty. In addition, due to the autumn feeding, more ovaries will be tied in the spring, which, in turn, will have a positive effect on the yield. A strong, healthy tree, which does not lack useful microelements, will "survive" the winter cold period successfully and will please with a good harvest in the spring.

In autumn, the following fertilizers can be applied under fruit trees:

• organic;
• mineral;
• complex feeding.

In addition, it is very useful to sprinkle the tree trunk circle with wood ash at the rate of 0.5-1 buckets for one adult tree with further digging of the soil. Ash will not only replenish the reserves of trace elements, but will prevent soil acidification and improve its structure.

Organics for trees in autumn

One of the most affordable fertilizers for the garden is organic, especially if you have a subsidiary farm. For example, poultry droppings in the presence of chickens do not require absolutely any costs, but they contain many useful substances.

It is also good to add components under the trees such as:

• humus;
• compost;
• peat.

After fertilizing, you need to dig up the ground. The rate depends on the age of the culture: 1 bucket will be enough for young trees, and 5 buckets may be needed for adults.

Autumn mineral dressings for the garden

Of mineral fertilizers, fruit trees need:

1. Potassium preparations (potassium sulfate, potassium chloride, potassium magnesium).
2. Phosphorus preparations (superphosphate, double superphosphate).

Nitrogen-containing top dressing cannot be done in the autumn, so as not to provoke growth (in winter, such branches will still die before they mature).

Complex autumn dressings

For greater efficiency, experienced gardeners recommend using a complex application of mineral preparations.

Finished fertilizers with a balanced composition can be found in every specialized store. Such drugs work well:

• "Fertile";

The right time for autumn feeding

It is imperative to fertilize fruit trees before frosts come. In the frozen ground, substances simply cannot get to the roots. It is very difficult to give an exact date, because each region has its own climate. In some, winter comes early, and feeding should be done at the end of September. In others, with a later winter, the procedure can be postponed to the end of October. So gardeners need to focus on the climatic characteristics of their region.
