How to store greens in the refrigerator for a long time - proven methods
There is always a use for greens in the kitchen, be it a salad, soup, main course or just a sandwich. Therefore, every housewife will probably be interested in how to store greens in the refrigerator for a long time. Of course, there is another way to make stocks - freeze, but we'll talk about that another time. In addition, be that as it may, but fresh greens are still tastier and more aromatic than frozen ones, and in most cases they look more attractive. Yes, a green bunch will not be able to lie for months or all winter, but 2-3 weeks is a very real shelf life. The main thing is to do everything right. This means limiting the access of light to the grasses, minimizing air ingress and shielding from heat.
To wash or not to wash is the question
It is better to rinse the greens not under the tap, but in a bowl of water, changing it several times. Remove the herbs first and then drain the water. Then there will be no earth left on the spices, because it will settle to the bottom of the bowl.
How to keep greens in the refrigerator for a long time
For greenery, take the lowest shelf - there is less light, which is contraindicated for it. You can store it in several ways, and in most cases the bundles are fresh for almost a month. To do this, greens can be packaged in:
- a plastic container with a lid, ideally if it is airtight;
- glass jar with a lid;
- a plastic bag by drawing air into it before tying;
- wrapped in kraft paper or paper towel, well sprinkled and then packed in a bag;
- waffle towel;
- plastic bag with small holes for ventilation.
If you have some greens, for example, just a bunch of parsley, just put it in a glass of water. Put a bag on top. And the leaves salad lie longer in ordinary glassware under the film. But before pulling it on, place paper napkins or a towel on the salad. You can extend the shelf life of green onion feathers to 3 weeks if you bought them with roots. Wrap the roots themselves with a damp cloth, and wrap the whole bundle in paper. To top it off, put everything in a bag and tie it up.
