How to make a warm greenhouse for seedlings - simple models for novice gardeners
Growing most crops begins with seedlings, and early vegetables even more require the creation of greenhouse conditions. And if it is quite expensive to build a greenhouse and there is not always free space, then there will definitely be one for a small greenhouse. There is nothing complicated in how to make a warm greenhouse for seedlings, no. It will not take up much space, but it will allow you to have your own greenery and grown bushes of cucumbers and tomatoes in early spring. It can even be made from trash, which is another advantage over equipment in large greenhouses. Unlike stationary greenhouses, greenhouses are often portable, but always small. The compact size allows the soil to warm up quickly, so you can sow seeds for seedlings in early spring.
When and where to put a greenhouse
For the earth to warm up quickly, the greenhouse should be small and low. The optimum width is 1.2 m with a height of no more than 1 m and a length of up to 2.5 m.
Simple greenhouse made of scrap materials
The main task in the construction of greenhouses is to cover a small area of soil so that it warms up and maintains the temperature. For this, old boards, window frames, metal arcs are suitable. The frame should be covered from above with a film or non-woven material.
The simplest models are easy to make, for example:
- A box of boards covered with foil. Knock down the frame from the boards and dig it a little into the ground. It is desirable that one side is slightly higher. On top, lay old windows or film stretched over slats. It is very convenient to use polycarbonate sheets. It transmits light, but does not release heat, and is also stronger than film. And you can also make the whole greenhouse out of it, knocking down the frame, too, from this material. You just have to install it on the garden bed.
- Frame made of arcs, covered with foil or non-woven material. Arcs can be made of metal, plastic or thick wire, cut into pieces up to 2 m long. Stick them into the ground every 50 cm, fix well.
For the first time, while the seeds are germinating, it is better to cover the greenhouses with a film, under it the soil warms up faster. But do not forget to replace it with a non-woven shelter when the seedlings grow up, otherwise the seedlings will burn.
How to make a warm seedling greenhouse with a warm bed
For early sowing, the use of warm beds with deepening below soil level. Having laid a bed, you just have to cover it and wait until the combustion process begins and the soil warms up. Then you can sow the seeds.
To begin with, loosen the soil with a walk-behind tractor, install the frame, knocking down the boards, and select the soil from the inside, deepening about 30 cm. Scatter the removed soil from the inside of the frame - it will also serve as a support and will help prevent rapid loss of heat.
Now put in the resulting groove in layers:
- 10 cm - medium-sized branches, straw;
- 40 cm of cow dung;
- 5 cm - straw again;
- 15 cm - a mixture of black soil with humus.
Cover the warm bed with foil and leave it to "work". On about day 6, you can start sowing by placing arcs in front of this. Then stretch the plastic over them and your greenhouse is ready.
