How to care for a spathiphyllum flower?
Spathiphyllum is an evergreen perennial and belongs to the Aroid family. The flower grows to an average of 30 cm, although there are varieties both taller and dwarf. It has beautiful green leaves that are attached to a long stem and grow from the root, since the plant has no stem. From April to July, spathiphyllum blooms - it releases a long stem with an unusually beautiful flower. The middle of the flower looks like a small mace or corn, around which a large and wide white petal is wrapped. It does not fade for a very long time, and does not fall off itself. At the end of flowering, the petal turns green, and the mace dries out and becomes like a fruit mulberry... After the flower and stem have completely dried out, they are cut out.
The spathiphyllum flower is absolutely unpretentious and will learn how to care for it even for novice growers.
Lighting
The flower can grow in shady rooms with diffused lighting. You can put it on a north-facing windowsill or on a table near the window.
If the leaves of the spathiphyllum began to brighten and stretch, this indicates an acute lack of sun and the pot needs to be urgently rearranged closer to the light.
Air temperature
Spathiphyllum is a thermophilic plant and will feel comfortable at temperatures from 18 to 23 degrees Celsius. With the onset of a dormant period (in winter), a slight decrease in temperature is allowed, but not lower than 18 degrees.
The plant categorically does not like drafts, so do not put it on a window that opens in winter for ventilation.
Soil for growing a flower
First of all, a drainage layer must be laid on the bottom of the pot. The plant grows well in moderately acidic soil. The ideal potting mix includes:
- one part of humus;
- one piece of leafy land;
- one part of peat land;
- two parts of turf land.
Watering and moisture
Spathiphyllum a very moisture-loving plant and needs regular watering with settled water in the spring-summer period and in the flowering phase. Withered leaves indicate a lack of water. The exception is the winter period: the frequency of watering must be reduced and the flower must be watered only after the top layer of the earth has dried out.
It is advisable to spray the plant once every two weeks, while making sure that water does not get into the pot and does not stagnate there. Despite his love for water, he does not tolerate stagnant moisture and quickly disappears.
Fertilizer
For re-flowering, spathiphyllum needs feeding with a universal fertilizer, you can also apply fertilizer for flowering plants. Usually, feeding begins in the spring at a frequency of once a week. In winter, you can also feed the flower, but not more often than once every three weeks.
Fertilization should be done in wet soil.
Plant transplant
Once a year, an adult plant is transplanted into a pot with a larger diameter, but no more than 2 cm. In a too large flowerpot, the spathiphyllum will not bloom soon, but will only grow leaves. The flower propagates by dividing the bush.
