How to grow an oak on a private plot
Most often, centuries-old oaks are found in natural conditions; you can still see them in city parks. However, this long-liver grows well on private plots. There is nothing difficult in how to grow an oak tree, the main thing is to be patient. It takes more than a dozen years for a small seedling to turn into a spreading tall tree. Before planting such a giant, it is worth weighing all the pros and cons and think carefully about whether he has enough space on the site.
The oak has a spreading, wide crown of dense foliage and gives a dense shade. It will not work to plant other plants under the tree - it will be too dark for them, but this is an ideal place for a summer gazebo. And also powerful roots can destroy the foundation if the oak is close to the house. On the other hand, the tree will serve as a protection and prevention of ground displacement.
How to grow an oak
You can get your own oak tree in several ways:
- Buy an already grown seedling in a container in the nursery. This is the simplest, but most expensive, option. Thanks to the closed root system, the tree takes root well and does not need to waste precious time growing a seedling. True, you will have to pay a lot for such a pleasure.
- Root a stalk taken from a forest oak. Cutting allows you to speed up the development of an oak tree for a couple of years, but the trees do not always take root.
- Plant acorns. The most reliable method with the only drawback is that it takes a long time. It is better to collect acorns in the fall under a tree in the forest and store them in the refrigerator until spring. To do this, you need to pour earth with foliage collected under the same oak into the jar, and place the fruits there. In the spring they can be planted first in pots. The seedling will be ready for planting in a permanent place when it reaches a height of at least 15 cm.
It is necessary to plant an oak in an open area from the west-south side, away from other trees, houses and communications.
Secrets of simple oak care
For the first 4-5 years, a young oak tree needs support and simple, but regular, care. You need to water the tree, on poor soil you will need and feed it a couple of times.
