What perennials bloom all summer - a selection of plants for a summer garden
One of the main advantages of perennial flowers is that they do not need to be replaced annually and the cost of planting material. Once you purchase and plant seeds or seedlings, with proper care, you will have a beautiful flower bed for many years. And if you are told that annuals bloom more abundantly, longer and more magnificently - do not believe it! Of course, if you take tulips, daffodils or peonies, then by summer only yellowed leaves or simply leafy stems remain in their place. However, there are many horticultural crops that bloom not only beautifully, but also until autumn. Among them there are many climbing vines or ground cover plants, compact undersized or slender tall flowers. Knowing which perennials bloom all summer, you can create a unique front garden. From late spring to frost, they will decorate the site to the envy of all neighbors. We bring to your attention a small selection of summer flowering garden plants with a long flowering period.
Climbing plants
Do you want a blooming arch or wall? Plant vine-like crops with climbing shoots. Climbing the support, they will create a living green wall, decorated with an abundance of buds.
All summer or most of it, such curly perennials bloom:
- Clematis. Unpretentious, frost-resistant lianas quickly crawl along the support, clinging to it with antennae. All types of clematis are characterized by abundant flowering. There are varieties with small buds or large ones. From June to early autumn (even to September), the clematis Arabella, Countess de Busho, Purpurea Plena Elegance, Varshavska Nike bloom.
- Campsis. The tree-like liana grows long shoots, has original inflorescences and is not afraid of frost. From June to October, the Flamenco campis blooms. A little later, in July, Clematis Flava and Judis bloom.
- Climbing rose. Ties many buds that bloom one after the other all summer. Long-flowering varieties include the Climing Gloria Day rose, the Rambler rose of the Dorothy Perkins variety, the Lambert New Dawn Rouge rose, and the Cardesa rose of the Flammentance variety.
Curly perennials definitely need support. If you are unable to build an arch, plant shrubs near a fence or tree. And with the help of vines, you can hide the unsightly wall of an outbuilding.
Ground cover plants
Whole flower carpets, densely covering the flower bed and blooming all summer, are formed by such perennials:
- Phlox subulate. Most varieties bloom either in the first or second half of summer. But there are phlox blooming twice over the summer. For example, the phlox Scarlett Flame blooms in late May and blooms until the end of June. A month later, in July, the second wave of flowering begins, lasting until September.
- The sedum is caustic. It grows quickly, takes root easily, and is resistant to adverse weather conditions. Blooms from May to late August with small yellow flowers.
Ground cover perennials are also good in that they facilitate the care of the flower bed.Growing quickly, they leave no chance for weeds and free them from weeding.
