When to sow lawn grass, the timing of spring, summer and autumn sowing
A mowed green grass lawn always looks beautiful and well-groomed, especially when it grows evenly. To get a truly continuous grass cover, it is not enough to regularly care for it. It is also important to know when to sow lawn grass. Sowing too early or, conversely, late sowing can lead to the fact that the seeds will not grow evenly. Agree that bald patches against the background of green islets bear little resemblance to a lawn. But friendly seedlings have more chances to turn into a green thick carpet over time.
Lawn sowing time
In general, the lesson on arranging the lawn is not difficult. Unlike most garden crops, lawn grass grows well throughout almost the entire spring-autumn season. But some nuances regarding the timing of sowing still exist and must be taken into account. So, as already mentioned, you can sow the lawn at different times, namely:
- in the spring;
- in summer;
- in the fall.
Let's focus specifically on each point.
Regardless of what time of the year the work will be carried out, it is important to time them to coincide with good calm weather. Small seeds easily fly away from the slightest breeze, and then it will be difficult to outline the boundaries of the lawn. In addition, there is a risk that some areas will remain unseeded.
When to sow your lawn in spring?
Optimal temperature values for spring sowing of a lawn are at least 15 degrees outside, and at least 10 degrees in the ground. Depending on the region, this is usually April-May.
When to sow lawn grass in summer?
When planning a summer landing, it is worth considering the weather conditions. If the summer is dry and hot, you should not plant earlier. The grass will not grow without regular additional watering. The best time for sowing a lawn in summer is the end of August. The heat usually subsides, there is enough moisture in the soil from the beginning of the rainy season, and the weeds do not grow so actively. The August grass will have time to grow well and get stronger by winter.
Benefits and timing of autumn sowing of grass
An autumn planting will save you the hassle in the spring, when even without a lawn on a private plot there is something to do. It will be possible to admire the green lawn in March-April. In addition, care for autumn seedlings with regard to watering is minimal, because at this time it often rains.
Sow lawn in autumn there are two ways:
- The beginning of September, so that before the onset of frost the grass will sprout and be processed.
- In November, when the ground is already frozen, but not yet covered with snow. In this case, you should choose a day for work when the temperature outside will be above zero. Seeds overwinter in the ground, harden and sprout together in early spring.
So many times I sowed the lawn and each time the same result - more often than not, I did not sprout or sprout with large bald patches.So this year I decided to take a rolled lawn, I ordered it from Gorgazon.
