When to plant lobelia - we grow a richly blooming beauty
Lobelia attracts attention with not at all large buds, on the contrary - with small flowers, of which there are a lot on the bush. To get such an abundant and lush bloom, it's worth knowing when to plant your lobelia. The flowering period itself lasts a very long time, perhaps this is one of the longest flowering plants. Given that the bush can withstand frosts up to 7 ° frost, it blooms almost until the onset of winter. But in order for a plant to form from a seed and set buds, you need at least 2 months.
Characteristic features of culture
This beauty grows in the form of a herbaceous and very branched bush. From the beginning of summer to November, it blooms magnificently with small flowers, no more than 2 cm in diameter. The color is dominated mainly by blue-blue tones, but there are also pink-flowered varieties. In total, there are more than 300 varieties of lobelia. As a garden culture, no more than 2 dozen species are grown.
Most often there are varieties related to bush or ampelous lobelia. The first is also known as Erinus, has a bush height of 10 to 40 cm and a spherical crown. Ampel lobelia is used for planting in pots. Its stems can be up to 80 cm long and hang down beautifully.
Lobelia propagates by seeds, but you can dig a bush in the fall and plant it in a pot. After overwintering in the house, in spring the plant returns to fresh air, thus justifying its long-term nature.
When to plant lobelia
Planting dates depend on how the plant is grown. The easiest way is to immediately sow seeds in open ground in late May - early June. Then the bushes will bloom towards the end of summer.
But in order for lobelia to bloom in June, it is better to plant it seedling way in March - April. Then, at the beginning of summer, it will be possible to plant already grown bushes with buds on the flowerbed.
