The best selection of early and productive strawberries - Honey variety
Among the wide variety of strawberry species, the Honey variety is worth highlighting - one of the brightest representatives of the early summer berry. He came to us from America thanks to the work of breeders who, based on strawberries, Holiday and Vibrant created a large-fruited species with high yield rates.
Characteristics of the variety
Strawberry Honey is a strong erect bushes with a well-developed and powerful root system. Like other species, the leaves of the plant are complex, but they are large in size and rich in dark green color. The length of the leaf with proper care is more than 20 cm, the whiskers are also quite long. Strong flower stalks are formed on the bushes.
Each plant can produce from 10 to 15 inflorescences, and the first crop can be harvested at the end of May.
The berries are large in size, each weighing more than 35 g. The shape of the strawberry resembles a cone, and the dark red fruits have a beautiful glossy hue. The taste of the first berries contains sourness, but by the end of fruiting, the strawberries become more sugary, although their amount decreases. The flesh is usually orange-red in color and not very firm. You can pick berries within two weeks every two days.
Variety bears fruit once.
Benefits of Strawberry Honey
Of the advantages of the variety, it can be noted:
- very early, fast and amicable ripening, even in comparison with early maturing strawberries;
- high productivity;
- good transportability and the ability to keep a fresh look for up to three days;
- frost resistance;
- plants are practically not susceptible to diseases, which are characterized by damage to deciduous plates;
- unpretentiousness to the soil.
More than 400 g of berries can be harvested from one adult Honey strawberry bush.
Some disadvantages of the variety
With all its advantages, Honey still has disadvantages, and above all it concerns watering. When growing such strawberries, it is important to properly adjust the watering: the culture does not like both excessive moisture and lack of moisture.
In addition, despite the high resistance to diseases of the leaves, the root system of the plant is weaker and can be affected by the fungus. It is also worth noting that after harvesting, fresh Honey strawberries cannot be stored for a long time, otherwise the fruits will begin to darken.
