Daffodils in a pot: how to care for flowers

daffodils in a pot Daffodils in a pot are a good gift for the spring holidays. This flower is a garden plant, but it can also be found on the shelves next to blooming hyacinths... Why not, because, like all bulbous plants, the daffodil lends itself well to forcing. If you received a daffodil as a gift, the main thing here is completely different: how to keep the flower? It is too early to land in open ground, and the daffodil is already beginning to fade.

What needs to be done in order for the bush to survive safely before transplanting in room conditions? The set of measures for the care of such a "home" narcissist is simple and includes:

  • watering;
  • transplant;
  • preparation for the rest period;
  • pre-planting preparation.

How often to water flowering daffodils in a pot

Like all bulbous plants, the daffodil does not tolerate excess moisture. You need to water the flower regularly, but in small portions. It is important to ensure that the bulb is not in permanently wet soil, because then it will start to rot. All liquid that flows into the pan must be drained. The substrate itself must have time to dry out between waterings.

A pot of flowering daffodils should be placed in the coolest room. Thus, it will be possible to prolong flowering.

Daffodils in a pot: where, when and how to transplant

As you know, in flower shops, plants are in transport soil. In addition, they are regularly and abundantly "fed" to get an early and lush bloom. Narcissists are no exception. Before the purchase, they grew in light, but poor soil, and ate mainly from the outside, due to the applied fertilizers. Thus, the initial task is to transplant the bush into a nutrient mixture. It should be light, with the addition of sand and leafy earth.

The transplant should be carried out by the transshipment method so as not to damage the roots. A large daffodil pot is not needed. A flat bowl or flowerpot a couple of centimeters wider than the diameter of the onion will do. It cannot be deeply buried, most of it should remain above the soil surface.

How to prepare potted daffodils for the dormant period

When new flower stalks stop appearing, and the old ones begin to fade gradually, it's time for the daffodil to rest. It should be prepared for a dormant period gradually. First, you need to reduce the frequency of watering, keeping it to a minimum.

When the tips of the leaves turn yellow, and they themselves disintegrate around the perimeter of the pot, watering should be stopped altogether.

Preplant preparation of bulbs

After the aerial part of the daffodil dies off, the bulbs can begin to be prepared for planting (transplanting) to a permanent place. To do this, take them out of the pot and clean them of dry scales. Treat first with a solution of potassium permanganate, and then with a fungicide to protect against fungi, adding to it a pest preparation.

Processed bulbs must be dried. They are stored in a dry, dark and cool place, and in August they are planted in a flower bed. If desired, planting can be carried out in the spring.
