Features of the content of cymbidiums at home
Cymbidiums are one of the most light-loving orchids. They can be kept on the southern windows, only you need to shade from direct rays. In winter, however, there may be a need for additional lighting. Lack of lighting is indicated by drooping leaves and drying buds. And if the tips of the leaves dry up, and the flowers crumble, then the air in the room is too dry. Humidity must be at least 50%.
But these orchids do not like heat. In summer, it is advisable not to allow the temperature to rise above 25 ° C. In winter, it is even better to keep the pot in a room where there is no more than plus 13-15 ° C.
In order for cymbidiums to bloom, they need a difference between the temperature regime of day and night of at least 5 degrees.
Cymbidium orchid - home care
If you create the desired comfortable regime, then the epiphytes will feel comfortable. To support their development and flowering will help:
- Moderate watering as soon as the top layer of the substrate dries.
- Frequent spraying in summer to maintain proper humidity.
- Top dressing during the growth period (before flowering) with special mineral complexes for orchids. In this case, the concentration of the working solution should be reduced by 2 times.
- Transplant every two years with replacement of the substrate, which quickly cakes. And the orchid itself grows quickly, forming new children, and it becomes cramped for it. She needs the soil, as for all epiphytes, based on pine bark with the addition of sphagnum and coconut.
Cymbidium reproduces most often by dividing the bush. When transplanting an old overgrown plant, young pseudobulbs are separated from it and seated in separate pots. It is better to take close and transparent flowerpots for orchids.
