Useful properties of Chinese quince - a storehouse of vitamins
Most often in private gardens you can find common quince, and its Chinese variety is still a relative rarity. And it is completely in vain, because the beneficial properties of the Chinese quince have been known for a long time. Its fruits contain many useful substances and vitamins, and the fragrant pulp has a positive effect on the body. What is the difference between this plant and the common garden quince and what is its healing power?
Characteristic features of culture
The virtue of culture is its fruits. Despite the modest size of the tree, a large quince ripens on the branches by autumn. It is not round, like the usual one, but more like a lemon in shape. The fruits are elongated, oval, with a protruding tubercle at the peduncle. The weight of one quince can exceed 1 kg. It is colored in a traditional yellow color, but the aroma is many times stronger than that of a simple quince.
Unlike the common quince, the fruits of which can be eaten straight from the branch, the Chinese one is not so tasty. Moreover, when fresh, hardly anyone will like it, except for its breathtaking aroma. The flesh of fresh quince is very dense and tough. But if you boil or bake it, it is very tasty.
Useful properties of Chinese quince
Fragrant fruits contain more vitamin C than lemon, as well as a large amount of essential oils and other useful substances. Quince can be added to meat dishes, jam, compotes or just cook decoctions. Such a fragrant drink and the fruits themselves have a healing effect, namely:
- relax the muscular system;
- regulate liver function;
- relieve spasms;
- relieve pain in joints and lumbar spine;
- relieve swelling and help remove excess fluid;
- normalize the digestive tract;
- help relieve intoxication with food poisoning.
Quince pulp masks dry oily skin well and are successfully used in cosmetology.
It should be remembered, however, that yellow Chinese quince can cause an unwanted reaction in allergy-prone people.
