Not many people know about the useful properties of the sow thistle. In fact, it is a very useful plant that has a number of medicinal properties. Meet such weed it is possible in any garden area, in the fields, as well as in forest glades.
Sow thistle composition
The stem of the plant is erect. It can be both branched and with a minimum number of shoots. The needles are pubescent, hard.
The sow thistle contains:
- vitamin C;
- carotene;
- alkaloids;
- various oils and acids;
- tannins (both in the stem and in the leaves);
- rubber;
- kaolin;
- inulin.
Thanks to these substances, the work of the nervous system, blood flow is normalized, the walls of blood vessels are strengthened. Carotene normalizes protein processing and improves metabolic processes in the body. He also takes part in the formation of bone tissue and tooth enamel.
Sow thistle: useful properties
In folk medicine, the plant has been used for many years. And this is not surprising, because the ground part is a real storehouse of vitamins. The leaves and stems contain many useful substances, without which the human body cannot fully function. Also sow thistle is good honey plant... During flowering, bees willingly fly to the loose buds and collect nectar from them. They are capable of carrying up to 110 kg of honey from one hectare.
Sow thistle is especially popular in traditional Chinese medicine.
Products based on this plant have the following effects:
- anti-inflammatory;

- pain relievers;
- tonic;
- antipyretic;
- diuretic;
- laxative.
According to the studies carried out, it was shown that the means based on the sow thistle are able to prevent the development of neoplasms. Also, the plant, especially the green part, increases immunity and normalizes blood sugar levels.

Sow thistle in folk medicine
Among the many species, the sow thistle is most often used in folk medicine. But despite all its advantages, it is recommended to consult a doctor before using.
Stalk juice
Since the leaves and stems of the plant are very fleshy, it will not be difficult to get juice from them. The liquid has a white color and a viscous consistency. For the most part, it is used externally.
Sow thistle juice helps with:
- warts;
- acne;
- abscesses;
- wounds;
- abscesses.
The plant is capable of removing opium from the blood.
Also "milky juice" is a good diuretic. Some people use it as a laxative.
With neoplasms of the mammary gland, juice is taken, combined with egg yolk. It is also believed that a viscous liquid improves milk production and quality during breastfeeding. For this, in the morning, at lunchtime and in the evening, you need to drink 1 tsp of a mixture of milk, sugar and sow thistle juice.
Plant-based decoction
You can prepare a medicine from all parts of the plant (ground and root). To stop bleeding, as well as reduce pain in the lungs and liver, you need to prepare a decoction according to the following recipe.
Ingredients:
- 1 tbsp. l crushed plant;
- a glass of clean water (filtered).
Combine everything in a saucepan and put on a small fire. Cook for 3 minutes. After the liquid has cooled, it must be filtered through cheesecloth. Drink the prepared mixture three times during the day.
This broth is also used as a compress for wound healing and for hemorrhoidal manifestations. In the latter case, sit-down baths are prepared based on 5 tbsp. l dry or fresh grass and 1 l of water. The mixture will need to be boiled for 7 minutes. Such procedures are done 3 times a week for 15 minutes.
With jade, a composition of 2 tsp of thistle and 0.5 liters of boiling water helps perfectly. Simmer everything on low heat for 5 minutes. Then set aside and insist at room temperature for 1-2 hours. Take this mixture three times a day for 1 tbsp. l. The treatment period should be 14-60 days. It all depends on the complexity of the disease and the body's response to this remedy.
Sow thistle infusion on water
A properly prepared remedy helps to get rid of headaches, liver pathologies. Also, the infusion is a good general tonic.
To prepare such a mixture, you will need:
- 2 teaspoons dried herbs (chopped):
- 200 ml of water (boiling water).
Put the workpiece in a container and fill everything with liquid. Then close the lid tightly and leave for an hour. Drink the ready-made mixture of 1 tbsp. l within 3 months.
Even a disease such as periodontal disease can be cured with an infusion of sow thistle.
Infusion prepared with alcohol
A mixture of sow thistle root and alcohol (800) helps with neoplasms, tuberculosis, diabetes. To do this, combine the components, in a 1: 1 ratio, and insist for 21 days. All this time, it is recommended to keep the container in a dark and cool enough place. The finished liquid is stored only in the refrigerator on the door or on the lower shelf.
To take such an infusion must follow certain rules. The first day add 2 drops to the water, the next 3, then again two and so on for a month.
Contraindications for use
It is forbidden to use compositions based on sow thistle for those who have an individual intolerance to at least one of the components. It is also not recommended to use infusions and juice for children who are not yet two years old.
Means are also dangerous for pregnant women. In such a situation, it is allowed only to use sow thistle honey, and then in small quantities.
