Polyanthus roses from seeds - planting and care
Indeed, polyanthus roses are able to delight even an experienced grower. True, most florists prefer to use seedlings - they make it easier to determine what color the flowers will be and what size. Still, growing from seed is much more fun. The main thing is to know how to grow polyanthus roses from seeds - planting and care are especially important here.
Seed preparation and planting
Seeds of a polyanthus rose are usually referred to as tightly similar. Therefore, preparations should begin at the beginning of February. The seeds should be held for 5-10 minutes in a solution of potassium permanganate, then wrapped in a damp cloth for 10-15 days. Best kept at room temperature. Moisten the cloth as it dries. After two weeks, the seeds can be planted in the ground - deepened no more than 0.5-1 centimeters. The soil must be nutritious and moist. After planting, it is best to cover the container with polyethylene or glass, and then put it in a cool place. In a month and a half, the first shoots will appear.
Two transfers
For the first time, seedlings can be transplanted already at the age of several weeks - three sprouts in one medium container. Watering regularly, protect them from direct sunlight - they will quickly burn young growth.
Watering is done as the soil dries out. You can use special fertilizers containing potassium, phosphorus and nitrogen - for stable growth and rapid development of plants.
The first summer roses are spent on a balcony, window or loggia. They will bloom only next year. Therefore, they should be planted in open ground only next May. By this time they will get stronger, the first leaves and buds will appear on a strong stem. So, it's time to transplant polyanthus roses to the garden.
The soil should be thoroughly moistened and fertilized in order to shorten the period of strengthening the bush.
If everything was done correctly, then this summer you can enjoy the exquisite beauty of flowering rose bushes and their stunning aroma spreading in the air.
