Diablo bubble, features of its planting and care
One of the most beautiful varieties of the bladder is the diablo bladderwort. This ornamental plant belongs to the genus of deciduous shrubs of the Pink family. At the AGM show in the UK in 2002, the crop was honored as the best new variety.
What is the difference between Diablo's vesicle

The diameter and height of the shrub reaches 3 m. Due to its ability to quickly grow and form a dense crown, the Diablo bladder is used both for creating a tall hedge and for group or single plantings.
The culture is not whimsical in breeding and care, it is easy to prune, which allows you to form beautiful spherical or rectangular bushes.
The shrub feels great with continuous growth in the same place, and for 50 years it retains its attractive appearance.
Reproduction methods
Diabolo cannabis plant can be propagated in several ways:
- seeds;
- cuttings;
- dividing the bush;
- layering.
If you wish, you can purchase an already rooted shrub in a pot. It can be planted throughout the season. Bubble plant with bare roots is planted in early spring, before the first leaves appear or in early autumn.
The culture is not demanding on the soil, but it is best taken in loamy acidic soil. It should also be borne in mind that the vesicle does not tolerate stagnant water.
Seed propagation
A ripe seed box contains many small seeds, but young plants do not always adopt external characteristics from their parents. Young plants grown from seeds may have a different leaf color, smaller size and height.
Therefore, when using this method, it is recommended to sow at least 10 seeds. After they sprout, you will need to select the most successful specimens, and reject the rest.
Cuttings
In the second half of August, when the shrubs are trimmed, several even, healthy cuttings are selected, and with the help of a sharp secateurs make oblique cuts. For propagation, young shoots with 2-3 buds are used, the lower leaves are removed, and the sections are treated with Kornevin.
Cuttings are planted in cloudy weather in nutritious soil enriched with peat and sand. The planted cuttings are sheltered from the sun and cold air in special greenhouses. They can be made from polyethylene stretched over a frame, or a cut plastic bottle with a volume of 5-6 liters. Such greenhouses help prevent moisture and create a comfortable microclimate for rooting. They are left for the whole winter, and with the arrival of spring, the rooted cuttings are transplanted to a permanent place.
Dividing the bush
This method is used before the start of sap flow, in early spring. For reproduction, select healthy, well-developed shrubs.Separating several shoots with a root from the main bush, they are treated in a solution of potassium permanganate, and planted in a previously prepared hole, abundantly watered with water.
In order for the Diablo bladder plant to take root better, it must be shortened by more than half. This will prevent the waste of energy and nutrients in the development of young leaves.
Reproduction by layering
For layering, you need to choose a healthy, strong branch, remove all leaves on it, except for the top ones, and dig in, fixing it to the ground with a hairpin. In order to accelerate the germination of roots, the area that is buried in the ground is pre-cut with a sharp knife in several places.
A shallow hole should be formed around the dug layer and watered regularly with water. In no case should the layering be allowed to dry out - this can lead to its death.
As a rule, the layering is done in the spring, and by autumn a full-fledged bush will grow out of it, which can already be separated and planted separately. But it is better to transplant the plant to a permanent place in the spring.
Landing features
Diablo bladder plant feels best in open areas. The plant loves the sun, but grows well in the shade. However, with a lack of sun, the color of the leaves becomes less saturated, which negatively affects the decorative qualities.
The culture is not demanding on the soil, but constant abundant watering can cause rotting of the measles system. Since the plant normally tolerates dust and gas pollution, it can be safely planted outside along the road.
Planting young seedlings is carried out in the following way:
- First, a pit is prepared, the depth of which should correspond to the length of the roots.
- The bottom of the pit is covered with drainage and a layer of fertile soil. If desired, the pit can be pre-watered.
- Then you need to carefully spread the roots and set the seedling in the hole so that the root collar is above ground level.
- The pit is filled up and tamped.
- After that, you will need to water the plant and then make sure that the soil around it does not dry out.
When planting a hedge, the seedlings of the vesicle are staggered, at a distance of 40-50 cm from each other.
What care does Diablo's bladder need?
Compliance with the rules of planting and caring for the diablo bladderworm will allow you to get an increase of 40-45 cm annually, and preserve the decorative appearance of the shrub.
Culture care is as follows:
- Regular watering (1-2 times a week, depending on weather conditions and soil type).
- Annual sanitary pruning of dry, frozen and damaged branches.
- Formative pruning performed annually. This procedure can be performed both in spring and autumn. In the first year of life, a young plant is pruned with pruning shears several times over the summer. This helps to increase branching and create the desired shape.
- Spring feeding ammonium nitrate, urea or mullein solution.
- Autumn feeding with nitroammophos.
Diablo's bubble plant is highly resistant to diseases and pests, therefore it does not cause much trouble for gardeners.
Diablo bubble in landscape design
Easy portability to large-scale pruning allows the crop to be used in landscaping.
Photos with options for creating various shapes will help you choose the most suitable design for your site.
