Secrets of spathiphyllum transplant
Like any indoor plant growing in a pot, spathiphyllum needs periodic replanting. The reasons here are quite understandable - over time, the root system completely fills the space in the flowerpot, and there is simply nowhere to develop further. In addition, with proper care, the flower forms many children and as it grows it becomes cramped. Experienced flower growers know how to transplant spathiphyllum correctly so as not to harm it, and they are happy to share their experience with beginners.
A signal that spathiphyllum needs an urgent transplant is the roots sticking out of the drainage holes, shriveled and dry leaves.
What is the difference between transfer and transshipment?
Young spathiphyllumbought in a store or grown on their own are most often reloaded. This means that the bush must be carefully removed from the flowerpot along with the earthen lump and placed in a pot with a larger diameter, setting it in the center. Previously, a layer of fresh soil must be poured into a new dish at the bottom.
But transplanting involves not only replacing the flowerpot, but also completely replacing the old substrate with a fresh one. Flower reproduction is often combined with transplantation.
Without a timely transplant, an adult bush quickly selects all nutrients from the soil, as a result, it begins to lose leaves and rarely blooms.
Preparing spathiphyllum for transplant
When transplanting, the bush must be completely cleared of the old earth. If the roots are strongly intertwined, you can use a stick for this, so as not to damage them. A very dense and overgrown bush is best separated. Thus, you can get new plants, and the old one - free up space for growth.
Now you need to prepare the flower:
- Examine the roots carefully for decay.
- If there is damage, cut it out and sprinkle it with activated carbon.
- Trim the roots a little so that they are on the same level.
- Use scissors to cut off all old, shriveled, limp, withered and spotted leaves at the root.
- Cut off dry tips from leaves (if any). The cut should be made along the yellow line, which separates dry tissue from living, green tissue.
- Rinse the entire bush thoroughly under the shower with warm water, removing the remaining dry scales.
If rot is found on the roots, the roots should be soaked in a solution of the Previkur preparation. For prevention, Fitosporin is used, and a healthy plant should be dipped into a solution for 30 minutes with the addition of a growth stimulator and a rooting agent (for example, succinic acid and Zircon).
How to properly transplant spathiphyllum?
Pour expanded clay on the bottom of the washed and disinfected pot (for drainage), since the flower does not like stagnant water. In a large clay pot on expanded clay, you can lay a layer of foam plastic so that it is not so heavy.
Next, prepare the soil:
- pour in a nutrient substrate for flowering plants with low acidity;
- add a handful of bark (soil for orchids);
- add a little vermiculite and perlite.
Such components will make the earth loose, it will pass water and air well. Pour the finished substrate into the pot and place the bush in the center, then add the earth from all sides, trampling it down a little.
It is necessary to plant spathiphyllum in such a way that the root collar remains above the soil.
When properly planted, 1.5 cm should remain from the soil level to the top of the pot, so that there is where to water. After planting, it is good to water the spathiphyllum and remove excess water from the pallet.Spray the leaves with the same solution in which the roots were soaked. Repeat spraying 2 more times with an interval of 7 days between each treatment.
Hello. Please tell me if it is worth replanting my spathiphyllum. Now it begins to bloom profusely, but the pot is already cramped for him. Purchased 3 months ago in December (not transplanted)
Tell me what is the best way to keep flowering and, if possible, multiply the flower?
I would not wait for the bush to fade, but transplanted it now - the peduncles are somehow twisted, perhaps the spathiphyllum does not have enough nutrition due to the cramped pot, plus the shipping soil has already exhausted itself. And you can propagate by separating the bushes with their own roots. In your pot, I see at least three fairly developed adult bushes and a small one in the background.
Hello. Please tell me why my spathiphyllum does not grow leaves, but the root is powerful, what should I do?
This happens if a flower is planted in a large pot. Until the roots completely fill the flowerpot, the spathiphyllum leaves will not grow. Transplant the bush into a container that is only a couple of centimeters larger than its root system, and place it in a lighted place.
Young Spathiphyllum stood in a pot, the child accidentally touched it, the pot fell, the earth and the flower separated. It's autumn now. Can I transplant in my case? Thanks to those who answered!
It seems that you have no choice, otherwise the flower will die. Transplant, of course - there are exceptions to every rule.
