Elegant and unpretentious vine - caring for a monster at home
Monstera amazes not only with its bizarre large leaves, but also with the overall size of the plant itself. In just a couple of years, a small bush turns into a huge liana more than 6 m high. And if the care of the monster at home is correct, her mistress will be lucky enough to even see how it blooms. This is a rather rare occurrence for indoor liana. Only if she feels "at home", among the shoots, an elegant creamy ear, decorated with a white sail-cover, will open. This phenomenon is worth the little effort that should be taken when growing a tropical beauty.
We create tropic houses - what kind of climate does liana need
The optimal place for the monstera is a large window on the east side, under which even an adult bush can be placed.
In terms of indoor temperature, the tropical liana prefers moderation. The intense heat will hurt her as much as the cold. In the first case, the plant grows even faster and begins to stretch. And in the second, on the contrary, it stops developing, and the leaves are covered with brown spots.
In summer, the house should be no more than 25 ° С, and in winter - at least 10 ° С heat.
Caring for a monster at home
Moderation should also be used when caring for a room vine, which consists in simple procedures:
- Water it abundantly, but only after the top layer of the soil has dried. In winter, watering is completely reduced so that the bush does not rot in the cool.
- Fertilized only twice a month from mid-spring to late summer. The best option is mineral complexes for decorative deciduous plants. But foliage also needs separate feeding.
- Maintain the glossy shine of the leaf plates by spraying and wiping them with a sponge. At the same time, it will help maintain the humidity in the air.
And one more important point: like any liana, the monstera needs support. She tenaciously grasps her with her aerial roots. And so that they are strong, the roots should also be periodically moistened. Or wrap them in moss to retain moisture.
