Yucca care at home is an unpretentious perennial for busy palm growers
The thick trunk, decorated on top with a lush bunch of long narrow leaves, makes the yucca look like a real palm tree. This flower is appreciated not only for its chic decorative look, but also for its completely undemanding nature. Yucca care at home is to create comfortable conditions for it. All the yucca needs is warmth during the growing season and cool wintering, good lighting and moderate watering. And correct and timely pruning will help the plant acquire a beautiful shape.
Content requirements
If the windows in the house are only on the south side, then care must be taken that the light is diffused. Dark spots appear on beautiful foliage from direct rays.
In spring and summer, yucca is comfortable in warmth, and it tolerates dry air well. But if the temperature in the room exceeds 25 ° C, it does not hurt to periodically humidify the air by spraying the bush. Yucca has no special requirements for humidity, but in this case it will more easily tolerate the heat. In winter, the flower has a dormant period and needs coolness. Until spring, it is better to rearrange the pot in a room with a temperature of about 10 ° C.
Yucca care at home
Although the bush grows slowly, it has a developed root system, with a powerful trunk. The yucca pot needs a deep one, always with holes in the bottom, so that excess water can drain off when watering.
The plant loves nutritious and loose soil. There are ready-made soil mixtures for yucca on sale. You can prepare a similar substrate yourself by mixing:
- leafy ground;
- sod land;
- a little humus;
- sand.
Better to buy ceramic or clay flowerpots, especially for mature plants. Light plastic can tip over under the weight of the yucca.
Room yucca care activities include the following procedures:
- Regular watering, especially in summer, but not before the ground dries out 5 cm deep. In a cool winter, it is enough to moderately water the bush every 10 days.
- Top dressing twice a month in spring and summer with mineral complexes for ornamental plants.
- Transplant every two years with a pot and soil change.
- Pruning young yucca when its trunk reaches 5 cm in diameter. The plant does not branch very willingly on its own and can grow into one trunk. To get side branches, cut off the top. And fill the cut with paraffin so that moisture does not evaporate.
Yucca propagates most often by cuttings. It can be either cut tops or a fragment of the trunk.
