Can an earwig live in a house, why is it dangerous to humans and what is it in general? I've already seen strange insects in the bathroom a couple of times: they either have a forked tail, or they have claws on it. She mentioned uninvited guests in a conversation with a neighbor, so she said that these are earwigs and an urgent need to get rid of them. They say, poisonous, they will bite, and you can even die. I don't really believe in such rumors, but it became a little scary, because in the house, besides me, there are also children. It is really that dangerous, and what can you do to clear the house of such vermin?

Among insects, there are many species that can harm both plants and living creatures, but rumors about some of them are exaggerated. For example, many of us freeze in horror at the sight of a little two-tailed. And do you know that this is actually the name of an earwig, why is it dangerous to humans, or is it a parasite harmless to us?

What does an earwig look like?

The dimensions of these insects are quite modest, but you can still see them without a microscope. An earwig or two-tailed is a small insect from the order of leatherworms. Its length does not exceed 3 cm; its long body is brown. On the small head there are powerful jaws with which the parasite can eat a lot. A characteristic feature of the two-tailed, for which it got its name, is an interesting tail. At its tip are two toothed forceps, similar to pincers.

Almost all earwig species have small wings located on the upper torso. However, they are used extremely rarely, preferring to move "on foot".

Two-tailed insects are nocturnal insects, they conduct all their activities at night, and during the day they hide, choosing secluded places with high humidity. Almost all species are afraid of daylight, except for some (Asian two-tailed, small). At the end of summer, insects begin their "mating season", but fertilized females lay eggs mainly only in spring. The female does not leave the nest until the larvae hatch. From one clutch, from 50 to 100 young individuals are born.

Before intimidating yourself and others, it's worth remembering what two-tailed beasts eat. But they are "vegetarians", they eat plant foods: vegetables, fruits, flowers, young and juicy garden and horticultural crops. Accordingly, the main habitat of insects is open ground, a garden, a vegetable garden or flower beds with flowers that they love very much. But sometimes earwigs can still "come to visit" your house to find food for themselves. Indoors, they hide where the humidity is high: in the basement or in the bathroom. And they eat crumbs from the table, indoor flowers, but they can also try a fur coat in the closet.

As for a person, the two-tails definitely do not touch him. They can only bite in defense. And even then, it is impossible to die from a bite, because insects do not belong to poisonous species. The maximum that will be is a local reaction in the form of irritation on the skin. If you are afraid that an insect will crawl into your ear, then you should be afraid of everyone who crawls.

How to get rid of earwigs in the garden and at home

Although there is no harm to people from insects, it is definitely not worth breeding them, either in the house or in the garden. Otherwise, small parasites will deprive you of your harvest, your favorite roses, and even indoor flowers.

You can get rid of insects in the following ways:

1. In the house, circle the baseboards with a special pencil Mashenka. Non-residential rooms can be processed with Dichlorvos. Alternatively, lay out boiled yolk baits mixed with any insecticide, such as Inta-Virom.
2. Dig up tree trunks and garden beds annually.
3. If you find clutches of earwigs, pour boiling water over them.
4. Spray indoor and garden flowers with a solution of laundry soap or onion infusion. Insects do not like their smell, and also the smell of vinegar.
