Early and persistent grapes Galahad - description of the variety, new items of Russian selection
Large and stable hybrids are known not only foreign, but also domestic selection. So, despite its youth, the Galahad grape, the description of the variety and the free access of which appeared only 13 years ago, has already gained popularity. And all thanks to the large berries, high vigor and good frost resistance. This allows you to grow it not only in the south, but also in temperate climates to get a good harvest.
Galahad grapes - variety description
Galahad is a table variety intended for growing in temperate climates. It has high winter hardiness and tolerates frosts down to minus 25 ° C without the risk of freezing. It is also important that the hybrid is practically not affected by gray rot, from which most types of culture suffer.
When grapes ripen and what is their taste
The hybrid gives the earliest harvest in the southern regions - already at the end of July, because it only takes 100 days to fully ripen. The further north you go, the more the harvesting period shifts, on average by 2 weeks.
The bunches of Galahad are beautiful, conical in shape and medium looseness. The minimum weight is at least 600 g. But with proper care you can grow clusters up to 1.5 kg. The berries are also quite large, from 3 to 6 cm in length, oval, covered with a dense skin. At the stage of full maturity, the skin turns light green-amber. It also has brown spots and a slightly bluish waxy coating on it. The pulp is dense, juicy, sweet and sour.
The undoubted advantage of the early hybrid is self-pollination. The presence of flowers of both sexes eliminates the need to plant pollinators.
The advantages of the Russian hybrid
The young variety has many advantages, among them:
- early maturity;
- beautiful bunches with large tasty berries;
- self-pollination;
- dense skin that protects the grapes from wasps and cracking;
- transportability, again, thanks to the dense shell;
- high frost resistance;
- immunity to gray rot.
But it was not without its drawbacks - if the harvest is not harvested in time, the berries do not hold and crumble. In addition, vigorous growth forces you to constantly monitor the bushes and shape them. The hybrid has no other disadvantages.
