The ancestor of modern hybrids - resistant grapes Talisman, variety description, photo
This variety is not a leader among modern hybrids, but it is thanks to him that many of them appeared. Grape Talisman, a description of the variety, a photo of which the growers should know "in the face", and today is often used as a parent variety. The reason for this is simple. It has excellent characteristics, from the frost resistance of the bush to good yield and large-fruited.
The Talisman was bred in 1990 and during this time has received recognition from many winegrowers. And along with him - and new names. Often the variety can be found as Kesha, Super Kesha or Kesha Muscat. The last name is especially "telling" and emphasizes one of the grape features - a light muscat aroma.

The first ovary appears already in the third, sometimes in the second year of the seedling's life. But for this, the presence of a pollinator is needed nearby, since only female flowers are formed in the Talisman. A high yield will be given by planting grapes Kishmish, Augustin or Aleshenkin as pollinators.
It grows quickly and adapts well to the growing climate. It also winters well and tolerates frosts down to minus 25 ° С without damage. Everything is all right in the variety and with disease resistance. Oidium, scab and gray mold are extremely rarely affected by grapes, for which they are valued.
Productivity and taste
Talisman is a mid-early variety, ripening in the month of September, with large berries. It has conical clusters, most often quite dense, weighing an average of about 1 kg. The mass of the berries reaches 20 g, they are oval, 3.5 cm in length, characteristic of the white variety. When the grapes are fully ripe on the sunny side, the berries turn golden.
The grapes have a thin skin that is not felt when eaten, and a very juicy sweet pulp, with a barely noticeable acidity. The talisman can be consumed fresh, as well as made from it a fragrant wine due to its light Muscat scent. The sugar content of the variety growing in the warm southern strip reaches 24%. Which is another argument in favor of choosing grapes for processing.
Pros and cons of the variety
The advantages of grapes Talisman are many:
- stable and generous harvest;
- excellent taste and versatility of use;
- high resistance to diseases and low temperatures;
- large-fruited;
- fast growth and good rooting of cuttings.
One of the main disadvantages of the variety is the need for pollination. In addition, these grapes require yield rationing, long pruning due to growth rates and a support with ample growing area. The impression of the Talisman is spoiled a bit by the thin skin, which cannot protect it from wasps and hornets. Otherwise, the variety is just excellent.
