Forcing hyacinths at home
Hyacinths very easy to select. Even today, new varieties of these flowers are being developed, as they are in great demand during the spring holidays. However, hyacinths are sold in the fall. In some regions of Russia, they are sold during the winter holidays. Considering the fact that bulbous plants do not tolerate winter frosts, it will not work to grow hyacinths in the open field for any holiday. In order to make this plant bloom at any time of the year, the method of forcing flowers is used.
Any bulbous plants can be "driven" into growth, but this method cannot be used with seed flowers. It is thanks to the accumulation of nutrients in the bulb that hyacinths withstand the great stress to which the grower puts the plants. Bulbs set to growth in winter or autumn are very difficult to root outdoors in spring.
Forcing can begin after the dormant period. Vendors start pushing hyacinths into growth two months before the holiday date.
Hydroponic distillation
After the onset of the dormant period, the hyacinth bulbs are cleaned of soil residues. Then they are placed in a cool, ventilated place, where the air temperature is gradually increased from +10ABOUTFrom to +15ABOUTC. The bulbs do not come into contact with water for five days. Then, when the rest period is broken, the bulbs are placed on special trays with water.
It is very important that the water only touches the bottom of the bulb, otherwise the water will bloom and the bulb will die.
There are special containers for forcing bulbous plants in the shape of an hourglass. Water is poured into the lower tank, and an onion is placed in the upper bowl. When the hyacinth forms a root system, its roots sink into a reservoir of water. Complex mineral fertilizers are dissolved in this tank.
At home, you can use a narrow-necked jar instead of a distillation container.
When the roots reach a length of 10 cm, the flower is moved to a room with an air temperature of +24ABOUTC. To accelerate flowering, hyacinths are placed under fluorescent lamps. Artificial lighting makes it possible to get flowers a week earlier. To get flowers as early as possible, the sprouted bulbs are transplanted into the ground. For forcing hyacinths, a mixture of peat, sand and garden perlite is used in equal proportions.
Before planting the expelled hyacinths in open ground in the spring, the soil is fertilized with cow humus.
