Vitamins in every home - growing onions on a feather at home
What zealous housewives do not plant, and garden crops can also be seen next to indoor flowers. Parsley, dill and even tomatoes with cucumbers, but most often onions. Growing onions on a feather at home is a great idea that is suitable even for residents of high-rise buildings in metropolitan areas. All that is needed for this is a little space on a light window or even on a pedestal near it. In a warm room, onions will grow even faster than in a garden bed, moreover, neither weeding nor loosening is necessary. Is that watering, however, given the modest volumes of such plantings, it is not so troublesome.
Growing onions on a feather at home - ways
So, there are several ways to grow onion feathers:
- in water;
- in earth or other filler that is capable of retaining moisture.
How to grow onions on a feather in water
The method is old, but does not lose its relevance and has several features so that the bulb does not rot:
- Germinate first. To do this, place the bulbs in water, but not completely, but only by immersing the lower part of the root vegetable.
- When roots appear, drain some of the liquid. Only the roots should be in the water, not the bottom.
To prevent decay, add activated carbon to the liquid, but still periodically completely change the water. The crop can be cut in 2 weeks.
Growing greens in a container with filler
Let's start with the container. It can be anything, not necessarily pots, although they will also work if you have extra pots. You can also plant bulbs in plastic trays, bowls, bottles, and even regular plastic bags. Only choose the last ones that are denser so as not to break.
As for the filler for planting containers, then it can be:
- soil (ordinary from the garden, but then do not forget to disinfect it, or a universal substrate from the store);
- sawdust (moisten them abundantly before planting);
- toilet paper (place many layers in a bag or on the bottom of a container, spray and place on top of the bulbs).
Regardless of what you will sprout feathers in, the care is the same. Water the soil or spray sawdust and paper as it dries. Spray the feathers themselves too - the onion loves it. But then ventilate the room to avoid high humidity and decay.If possible, provide your onion beds with light for 10 hours, and then the feathers will grow quickly and harmoniously. That's all.
