Since the shoots are highly branched, the crown thickens quickly. Regular haircut for this variety is essential to thin out the crown. Otherwise, a significant part of the crop will simply crumble, because the fruits will not have enough light to ripen.
Idared is grown mainly in a warm southern climate - its winter hardiness is at an average level. It was not possible for breeders to increase the immunity of the variety to scab and powdery mildew. Without preventive treatments, it will not be easy to save the crop and the tree itself.
Ripening time, yield and taste
The variety belongs to the winter, the apple tree blooms in late April - early May. The crop is harvested in September, at the stage of technical maturity. The fruits fully reveal their taste closer to February. They become very juicy, and the white fine-grained flesh is firm and straight crunch, while the aroma is not pronounced. The apples themselves are reddish, large, weighing an average of about 200 g, slightly conical in shape. Although the skin is thin, it is very strong and reliably protects the pulp during long-term transportation. From one young apple tree, you can take at least 30 kg of apples, and an adult tree gives about 100 kg annually. Moreover, it does not need pollination.
