It takes a lot of work to grow a healthy vineyard and get high yields. He is often sick, suffers from pests and needs good nutrition, therefore it requires regular treatment with special preparations. One of the best options is to use iron vitriol for grapes in the fall.
Why this particular drug? It's simple: it has a universal effect. Acts at the same time as a full dressing, and a fungicide against diseases, and an insecticide against insects. Autumn is considered one of the best periods for spraying the vineyard. This will allow the bushes to leave for the winter stronger and healthier, which means that they will give a good harvest.
What gives the treatment of grapes with iron sulfate
- destroys spores of various fungi, curing bushes from oidium, powdery mildew, scab, anthracnose;
- creates a protective film and is a prophylactic agent against grape diseases;
- saturates the vine with iron;
- kills pests;
- stimulates the growth of bushes and the development of lateral branches.

As in the case of spraying with the drug in the spring, the same rules apply in the fall. Since ferrous sulfate, when it hits the green mass, burns it, processing is carried out when the grapes have dropped their foliage. The best option is to spray the bushes after autumn pruning... In this case, the solution will also additionally cover all the cut sites with a film, protecting them from infections.
Depending on the cultivation climate, spraying is carried out in mid-October - in the middle lane, and in the first half of November - in the south. However, it should be borne in mind that the solution is washed off. Therefore, it is necessary to calculate so that after the procedure there is no rain for 5 days.
How to process grapes with iron sulfate
It is very important to strictly follow the instructions and not exceed the dosage. Despite the fact that in October there is already a vine without leaves, too concentrated a solution can even burn the shoots.
The dosage of the working solution depends on the purpose of using the drug (treatment or prevention / feeding), as well as the age of the plants:
- preventive spraying of adult grapes - 3% solution (300 g of the drug per 10 l of water);
- treatment of sick grapes - 5% (500 g per bucket of water);
- iron feeding - no more than 20 g of the drug per 10 liters of liquid).
